Prepare a bank statement CSV for accounting software

Most bookkeeping tools can import bank transactions from a CSV file. Imports fail for a few predictable reasons, all of which you can fix before uploading.

The columns most tools expect

Date, description and amount are the core. Some tools want one signed amount; others want separate money-in and money-out columns. Check your software's import help page for its exact template.

2026-10-03Salary payment1200.00

Common import errors

Dates in the wrong order (day/month vs month/day), thousand separators inside numbers, currency symbols in the amount column, and blank rows at the end. An ISO date such as 2026-10-02 avoids most date problems.

Check after importing

Compare the imported total and the number of rows with the statement. StatementNest keeps the source page for every row, so you can trace any line that looks wrong.
