Bank statement PDF to Google Sheets: import it cleanly
Google Sheets cannot open a PDF bank statement as a table. The usual route is to convert the statement to CSV, check it, then import the CSV into Sheets.
Convert to CSV first
Use a text-based PDF from your bank. Convert it to CSV and keep one row per transaction with date, description, a signed amount and, if the statement has one, the running balance.
Import settings that matter
In Sheets choose File, Import, Upload, then pick the CSV. Set the separator to comma. Turn off automatic conversion if your dates are day/month/year and your Sheets locale is US; otherwise 02/10 can become 10 February. You can set the locale under File, Settings.
| Date | Description | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| 02/10/2026 | Coffee & Co | -5.80 |
| 03/10/2026 | Salary payment | 1200.00 |
Check after importing
Sort by date and compare the first and last rows with the PDF. Sum the amount column and check it against the change in balance for the period. If the totals differ, look for a missing page or a row with the wrong sign.
