Import a PDF bank statement into Xero

Xero imports bank statements from OFX and CSV files. A PDF statement has to be converted first.

Convert and check

Convert a text-based PDF from online banking and export OFX. Before importing, check that the first and last transactions and the total match the PDF.

Import into the right account

In Xero open the bank account, choose to import a statement, select the OFX file and import. Xero shows the statement lines for reconciliation. Only import statements for the matching account and date range, so you do not overlap a bank feed.

Why OFX rather than CSV

OFX includes a unique ID for every transaction and uses a fixed date format, so there is no day/month mix-up and no column mapping. Use CSV if your process needs extra columns such as the source page.
